Ivan update

Phew. I made it through. Thank you for all the kind emails, and comments. The appt. went well and we have a diagnosis. Autism. Mild autism, but autism none the less. I feel very overwhelmed but also a sense of relief. At least I know what I am dealing with.

He was given a referral and will be able to go into the Child Find program at the school. He will have some therapies that we will have to do also. The road ahead is...well still unclear.

Knowledge is power. And I intend on doing a lot of research.

I do love you so Marie! You are so honest in your opinions. We have had some diagnoses of mild autism in our family as well. I'm happy that you have the advantage of good health care in the military.

Hi Marie,
Mild autism...hmm..that's a dianosis you can deal with. Don't do so much research that you scare yourself. Usually people with mild autism are just a bit eccentric more than anything else. I'm glad Ivan's in Child Find. Be sure to stick up for HIS rights in your IEP meetings with the school. Love You, Mom

I know how hard it is to not know what's going on with your own child and why. You wonder if it's you or if things are normal. And you do feel a lot of guilt and frustration. But, Marie, you are an awesome mom and anyone who knows you would agree!

I'm so glad that you got a clear answer quickly and now you can start all "the other stuff". I know it won't be easy, but you are so strong and impress me so much! The Lord will bless you and Ivan.

You're always in my thoughts and prayers and I miss having you around to talk to each week!

Marie you are so awesome!!!!! Information is power! I think you are so brave. So many parents don't want to know or don't want to admit things. You are a great Mom and you will do a wonderful job I'm sure. We will keep you guys in our prayers.

Good luck with everything that comes ahead. I know you will do whatever he needs and he will come out on top. Remember you are a great mom.

I know that all autistic children are different and all have varying levels. That being said, there is a 15 year old boy in our neighborhood who is has "mild autism" and he did some yard work for me and I didn't even know until his dad told me afterwords. I hope that is of some comfort to you.

Hi Marie,

I've just been reading blogs and catching up on things. I'm so glad you finally have a diagnosis for your little guy. I think alot of times its scary not knowing what's wrong than finally having a name for what is wrong. With a name you can start moving forward to find the help and support all of you need, while without it you were just spinning your wheels. Remember that all of us are here to help if you need us (okay so maybe it would have to be a little long distant help) and that we love you and yours.
