Works For Me Wednesday
This week, WFMW is a little different than last week.Instead of giving a tip, you ASK for one. So I have been dealing with something for awhile, and I am wondering what advice someone has. I should be a pro at this, after all Ivan is not the first 2 yr. old I have dealt with but...
Recently, Ivan hasn't been eating. Today's menu consists of:
Bfast: half of a choc. muffin
snack: honeycombs...which after a couple were dumped into a waterbottle
lunch: some sips of juice, and about 2 spoonfuls of mac&cheese, none of his mandarin oranges
snack after nap: 2 baked french fries
He hasn't eaten dinner yet, but I doubt he will eat very much of it. When I take him to day care for drop in, they said he eats really well, but I can't get him to eat anything. Mac and Cheese is a huge fav. but that doesn't seem to matter lately. It doesn't matter if it is a favorite food or something else...he won't eat. I am currently not trying to give him as much juice. Maybe he is filling up on that?
Any advice on getting a 2 year old to eat would be appreciated!

If he does eat at daycare, maybe see if they will let you come in and watch but from somewhere he can't see you and see what is different about it.
I agree with ukzoe, find out what and when and how much he is eating at daycare and see if you can follow that same routine at home. My 16 month old doesn't eat much either but I'm working on finding things that he will eat anytime, like hotdogs and mac n cheese.
Truthfully, I wouldn't worry about it. Toddlers' appetites come and go. Just keep putting food in front of him and encouraging him to eat. Two-year-olds are grazers by nature, and it's not as if Ivan is underweight, right?
I agree - find out what he is eating at daycare - he may just be bored with his usual favorites - may be time for some new food choices.
My son is like that too, except he is four. Our pediatrician said that kids go through stages where they really simply don't need much food and stages where they are growing a lot and will eat like pigs. So when he's going through a period that he's not interested in food, I try to make sure that what he is eating is healthy.
I wouldn't worry about it, as long as what you're offering is healthy and semi-balanced. He'll eat when he's hungry. (I speak as the mother of a two-year-old who does this off and on, too!)
I agree with Susan. When he's growing again, he'll get the "hollow leg" where he eats everything you put in front of him.
